HR forgets to approve employee's work-from-home requests, employee stops coming in with no consequences: 'Bureaucracy at its finest'

It's hard to blame an employee for shirking their responsibilities when HR isn't doing anything about it either!

This author used to be a fully remote employee until his team was required to come into the office three days a week starting in 2022. At the time, this hybrid schedule was the limit to what the author was willing to do until his superiors changed their minds again. Now, it's four days a week, and the author has noticed some significant changes to overall morale and productivity.

For starters, the author has noticed a dip in his productivity and a lack of sufficient time to spend with his spouse and kids, due to his long commute to the office. Then, he started to develop debilitating headaches. His doctor suggested that he spend the next two weeks working from home and wrote a note to be sent to his HR team.

That's when the author learned just how incompetent his company's human resources department was. Not only did they keep delaying their meeting where approvals like these were made, but they also never followed up about it!
